CAUTION:
Please read carefully the following articles before using this rifle. It is extremely important that you become thoroughly familiar with this rifle and its operating characteristics by carefully reading and understanding the instructions in this booklet before you attempt any use of it with ammunition.
Should you still have problems with the safe usage and correct handling of your rifle or should you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact a competent gunsmith or dealer or address our factory directly. Warning: This rifle can be dangerous if it is not used correctly. The privilege of ownership and safe use of your rifle carries a personal responsibility that no one should take lightly. Rifle accidents would not occur if the following rules of shooting safety were observed.
1. Treat every rifle as though it was loaded, even if you have personally checked it. Do not take anyone's word or automatically assume it is not loaded. Check your rifle personally each time you handle it. The safe and courteous way to carry a rifle when you are with others is to leave the bolt open so that they can easily see that the rifle cannot be fired.
2. Whenever you pick up your rifle, point the muzzle at the ground. Make sure that the rifle is not loaded anymore when you stop shooting. Make sure your rifle is unloaded before every transport. Never pick up your rifle with your finger on the trigger guard.
3. Always point the muzzle of the barrel in a safe direction. Shoot your rifle only under good visibility and daylight conditions. If you use your rifle in an indoors range, make sure it is adequately ventilated. Never pull a rifle towards you by the muzzle.
4. Before you shoot inspect your backstop. Make sure that there is a safe bullet trap which can be seen from all sides and that there is no one in the vicinity of your target. Be absolutely sure of a safe backstop and target. Never fire at a hard, flat surface or water. Never shoot at a skyline target or into the air. Do not shoot at anything from which a pellet may ricochet.
5. The correct calibre of your rifle can be seen from your rifle. Be sure that you use the correct ammunition. Load your rifle only when you are at the range and ready to shoot.
6. Always keep your rifle clean. Be sure the bore is not obstructed by dirt, water, grease, snow or any other foreign materials. Never fire your rifle with the muzzle in the water or against any other material to avoid an accident or damage of your rifle.
7. Always use approved hearing protection and approved shatterproof eye protection while shooting. You must be in good physical condition and mental health and not under the influence of any substance (drugs, alcohol) which might impair vision, dexterity or judgement. Do not use your rifle when you are tired. Tiredness may result in loss of control.
8. Place the safety fully into "S" (safe) or "F" (fire) position - never in between. Always keep safety in full "safe" position until ready to fire. Do not put your finger on trigger when operating the safety or whenever you are not ready to shoot. Be sure the muzzle is pointed in a safe direction when operating the safety.
9. When not in use your rifle should be stored in a locked and secure place accessible only to you. Check first to make sure it is unloaded. Store the rifle with uncocked trigger. Store ammunition in a separate and secure place. It is your special responsibility to make sure that at all times and especially when you are not present your rifle is well secured, out of any reach of children and other unauthorised persons and in no way accessible to them. If you have occasion to hand your rifle to some other authorised person, make sure that the rifle is unloaded. Never let your rifle be used by anyone who is not familiar with the safe handling of a rifle and these instructions.
10. Watch for any change in the operation of your rifle which might affect its safety. If you suspect a defect or malfunction, stop using it immediately, unload the rifle and send it to a competent gunsmith, the factory or its recommended repair station for inspection. Note: Apart from normal cleaning the rifle must only be disassembled by an authorized gunsmith. Unqualified handling or disassembly can cause injuries or irreparable damage of the rifle.
11. Your ANSCHÜTZ rifle has been carefully built and inspected by skilled technicians to provide maximum efficiency. The service life depends on the owner's care and on cleaning following the owner's manual closely.
12. Your rifle should always be handled with extreme care. Make sure that it is never dropped or placed in such a way that it can fall. For transport purposes your rifle should be dry and clean. We recommend an approved protective gun case.
13. These instructions are extremely important. They should be kept with your rifle and transferred with the rifle to any new owner. Do not lend your rifle without the owner's manual. Be sure that anyone using your rifle read and understand the information contained in this manual.
14. This rifle must only be operated by or under the supervision of a responsible adult.
15. Only use the rifle at a shooting range licensed for air rifle shooting. When using a rifle observe the corresponding regulations and laws for the safe handling of firearms.
Important note for the handling of compressed air cylinders:
a) Only check the manometer level at the compressed air cylinder when the rifle
is unloaded and uncocked. Due to its design the manometer works with an accuracy of +/- 10 %. Temperature variations can also impair the accuracy of the manometer.
b) Filled compressed air cylinders must not be exposed to temperatures of more
than 50° Celsius/1220° Fahrenheit. Therefore make sure during transport (e.g. in case of hot temperatures in a car) or storage that the rifle is protected against heat, for example by storing it in the Styrofoam packing or by using a gun case.
c) Compressed air cylinders which are leaky, defective or older than 10 years must not
be filled.
d) Compressed air cylinders and refill bottles must be stored in a dry, dust and
grease/oil free place.
e) Protect valves and threads with the corresponding covers when you have removed
the compressed air cylinder. Never grease or oil the valves or threads of the compressed air cylinder. Danger of explosion!
f) Compressed air cylinders must not be filled with more than 200 bar (2,790 psi)
at room temperature. Only use compressed air free of oil or water.
According to legal regulations we only deliver unfilled compressed air cylinders.
g) Attention: The compressed air cylinders are not screwed in all the way when they
come from the factory. Please fill the compressed air cylinder before you use it and screw it in manually. Approximately one turn before the bottom you will feel a resistance and the valve is opening automatically. Continue turning until the cylinder is hand tight to guarantee that no air is escaping from the cylinder. We recommend to always release the compressed air cylinder when you do not use the compressed air rifle. Turn the cylinder out until you hear the air escaping from the cylinder. Now release the trigger once or twice to make sure that the remaining air in the housing can escape. Thus the valves and the housing are protected against excessive pressure.
h) If your compressed air cylinder is defective it has to be exchanged immediately and
must not be used anymore.
i) Apart from the notes above the technical rules of your country with regard to the filling
of compressed air cylinders must be observed.
Important:
a) Only use diabolo air rifle pellets in the calibre of your air rifle; do not use anything
else.
b) The stock of this rifle has been very carefully checked by factory inspectors
prior to shipment and has been determined to be free of defects. Certain kinds of abuse, such as dropping of the rifle can cause damage to the stock for which the owner is solely responsible.
c) ANSCHÜTZ does not assume any responsibility for damage of any kind resulting
from the disregard of these instructions, non-qualified treatment or repair, the use of non-original ANSCHÜTZ spare parts, incorrect handling, negligence or unauthorised modifications.
Assembly
The stock and the barreled action are packed separately for shipment and need to be assembled. However, do not do this until you have followed all the procedures listed below. After wiping away excess surface oil, the barrelled action should be inserted into he stock. The two bedding screws should then be progressively tightened alternately and uniformly, with the enclosed Allen wrench (No. 4406, Order No. 710.6301). Its handle is especially designed to assist you. To ensure that you obtain the proper torque, we recommend the following procedure; put the rifle upright on the floor with the butt downwards and rest the right side of the stock (viewed towards the muzzle) on your shin and foot. Now support the barrel with the edge of your left index finger and tighten the two bedding screws alternately in steps of one-sixth of a turn. The handle of the Allen wrench should be on the right side of the rifle and be horizontal after each half turn. Use only one finger for the tightening process. Once the rifle is raised from the floor by the increasing tension alone, the correct torque has been achieved. After initial assembly, setting of the stock wood may occur. Consequently, the screws should be tightened periodically in the manner previously described.
Fitting the ANSCHÜTZ System
Before shooting, the bedding system should be adjusted as necessary - preferably by means of our torque wrench No. 4405 (Order No. 700.6180). In this way, you can tighten the bedding screws to the tension of your choice. An audible, perceptible click indicates when the optimum torque has been reached. Optimal torque is normally about 5 Nm (50 deci-Newton-metres), equivalent to 50 cmkp or 43,4 inlb.
Cock, load and safe your rifle
Lift the loading lever and pull it backwards until it is vertical. Thus the cocking piston is cocked. To load push the diabolo pellet with its flat head flush with the front of the loading platform. The cup to accept the pellet is conical to prevent crushing or tilting of the pellet. Lock the breech by firmly pressing the lever forward and down. It is essential that the joint is felt to lock into position. This will be confirmed by a distinct click. With the filled compressed air cylinder the rifle is now ready for shooting. This can be seen from the signal pin at the end of the action. The lateral safety lever can be operated when the rifle is cocked. The rifle is "safe" when the "S" is visible but the "F" is covered. The rifle can be fired when the "F" is visible and the "S" is covered. Attention: The safety lever must latch properly so that the "F" is covered in the "safe" position and the "S" is covered in the "fire" position. The lever must never be situated between the two. Do not store the rifle when it is cocked. Only use diabolo pellets in the calibre of your air rifle.
Unload the rifle
For safety reasons it is absolutely essential that the rifle is unloaded and uncocked before leaving the shooting position. It is only possible to remove a pellet by firing which should only be done by firing the pellet into a bullet trap. Observe the safety regulations when you use your rifle.
Trigger
For more information see enclosure "Match triggers"
Dry firing
You can do dry firing without cocking the rifle and without using any rifle pellets.
Turn the compressed air cylinder 2-3 turns out to interrupt the connection between the compressed air cylinder and the chamber. Attention: Be aware that there is still air in the chamber even if the supply of compressed air has been interrupted. This air can be removed by shooting it off. Now you can dry fire by cocking the rifle as usual.
The compressed air cylinder can also be removed completely for dry firing, which reduces the total weight, however.
Compressed air cylinder
The rifle is equipped with an interchangeable compressed air cylinder. The compressed air cylinder is removed by turning it counter-clockwise. This can be done manually or with the help of a hexagon key which has to be plugged in the countersunk of the cylinder cap. The compressed air cylinder must carefully be screwed onto the chamber to avoid any damage.
Refill of the compressed air cylinder
Attention: Only use refill bottles with a maximum pressure of 200 bar (2790 psi) Only use compressed air free of oil and water. Make sure that there is no oil or grease at the connecting threads.
Only screw the adapter (Order No. 711.3409), which is delivered with your rifle on the compressed air bottle. Then screw on the compressed air cylinder on the adapter and tighten the hexagon screws to avoid that air can escapte. Now open the valve of the bottle very slowly. Wait for appr. 5 seconds (The compressed air cylinder will heat up slightly during the refilling process). Close the valve of the compressed air bottle completely. Now remove the air from the adapter by releasing the hexagon screw. When the air has left the adapter, tighten the hexagon screw again. Now remove the compressed air cylinder and screw it on the rifle by hand.
With a full cylinder (max. 200 bar/2790 psi) appr. 350 shots can be fired. Compressed air bottles (Order No. 711.3510) and hand pumps (Order No. d711.3520) are available in specialised gun shops or in specialised shops for diving equipment. The compressed air cylinder has a maximum service life of 10 years. The manufacturing year can be seen from the compressed air cylinder.
Warning
Compressed air bottles with an allowed filling pressure of 300 bar (4,185 psi) are offered as well. These bottles have the same thread as the bottles with a filling pressure of 200 bar (2,790 psi). In case you use a bottle with a filling pressure of 300 bar (4,185 psi) it is absolutely necessary to use a pressure reducer which is adapted to 200 bar /2,790 psi). For reasons of safety it is not allowed to fill the compressed air cylinder with more than the maximum pressure of 200 bar (2,790 psi). It is also not allowed to use such a compressed air cylinder or to store it. Please therefore strictly observe the instruction for the filling of the compressed air cylinder and the corresponding Technical Rules of your country.
Accessories (no standard accessories)
1. The ANSCHÜTZ Micrometer Sight No. 6805 (Order No. 700.0115)
Elevation and drift (known as "windage" in the USA) on the ANSCHÜTZ rear sight are controlled by micro-adjustable drums. From click to click (or figure to figure) the point of impact changes by about 0.5 mm on a target at a distance of 10 m.
If the shot is too high turn the elevation knob clockwise, if it is too low turn it counter-clockwise
If the shot is too far at the right, turn the drift or lateral control knob clockwise, if it is too far at the left, turn it counter-clockwise.
Attention:
Our micrometer rear sights are carefully adjusted and repeatedly tested. In order not to impair precision none of the screws should be adjusted. Take a coin to screw on the clamping nuts at the rear sight base.
2. ANSCHÜTZ Globe Front Sight No. 6832, (Order No. 700.0221)
The globe front sight No. 6832 combines several advantages of previous sights in one device:
- Internal cant indicators may be adjusted to the shooters preference
- Cant indicator is calibrated for easy adjustment to compensate for the cant of the
rifle
- The sight is mounted on a narrow pedestal for a cleaner and more precise sight
picture.
- A dummy mounting screw is installed on the left side to present a balanced sight
picture to the shooter.
- Clamping screw
- Clamping ring
The cant adjustment is done by loosening the socket head lock screws on the front of the sight base and rotating the globe to the desired setting and then tightening the lock screws again. A corresponding Allen wrench is supplied with the sight. Take a coin to screw on the clamping nut at the front sight base.
3. Butt plate and cheek piece adjustments
Spacers are used to adjust both the cheek piece and the butt plate.
a) parallel spacers Model No. 400-232, Order No. 710.3756
b) vertical angle spacer Model No. 400-234, Order No. 710. 3757
c) horizontal angle spacer Model No. 400-230, Order No. 710.3755
The cheek piece and butt plate can be adjusted to any position with a combination of the three different types of spacers. A snap like fastener is used to keep the spacers aligned.
4. Mounting of high sight blocks to raise sighting line
The high sight block is to be installed on the corresponding prisms.
5. Additional weights
The air rifle can be adapted to your individual requirements among others in three easy ways:
a) Barrel weights: by pushing, adding or removing the additional weight 400-56 C
( Order No. 700.6350)
b) Stock weight: They can be put in various grooves, for example below the
sliding rail, in the back part of the stock or in the cheek piece.
Cleaning and care
Even after considerable use, your ANSCHÜTZ match air rifle will not require much attention - a tribute to its solid design, first class materials, well proven ANSCHÜTZ workmanship and precision. If you follow the recommendations below, you will help maintain the excellent performance of your air rifle for a long time. Please only use resin and acid free oils.
We recommend to clean the cone of the barrel with a slightly oiled, fluff-free cloth. This avoids corrosion which might occur as a result of humid hands or condensed water. To avoid corrosion you also should clean your barrel with a slightly oiled, fluff-free cloth or cleaning cords pulling them through the barrel from the chamber to the muzzle. Please use no other means for cleaning. Thus you also can avoid corrosion and constant shooting performance is guaranteed. Remove the oil film with a dry cloth or cleaning cords before you shoot the next time.
After appr. 2,000 to 3,000 shots the rifle should be cleaned carefully. The barrel is cleaned with a brass brush first. Cleaning is generally carried out from the chamber to the muzzle and back again. Never move the brush back and forth in the barrel. Then pull a cleaning cord in dry condition through the barrel several times until there is no more dirt visible at the cord. After cleaning or before shooting the next time you use your rifle fire 10 to 20 shots to get back to the former shooting performance (oil shots). External parts must only be cleaned with dry material. The trigger parts can be lubricated slightly with molybdenum disulphide grease once a year. The internal parts should not be washed with spray or oil to avoid resin or other residues in the trigger.
Protect your rifle against dirt, sand, humidity, heat and other harmful influences. Be aware that condensed water might occur as a result of temperature variations. In such a case it has to be removed at once. Beware of other possible changes or damage. In such a case take your compressed air rifle to an authorised gunsmith for checking.
When you use your rifle frequently we recommend to have the seals and the piston checked once a year.
Warranty
A warranty of 1 year will be issued. Parts which are subjected to wear are not part of this warranty. In the case of warranty we substitute the defective parts free of charge. Cases of warranty will only be accepted if the article in question and the corresponding purchase receipt plus filled-in warranty card are presented. Warranty will not be accepted if changes or repair works have been carried out by persons who are not authorised, if the rifle is not used correctly or if non-ANSCHÜTZ original parts were used.
We wish you much pleasure and success with your compressed air match rifle and would be pleased if you kept us informed.
