Commander Turner and NRA Board of Directors Member Phil Williams,
of Augusta GA. The Aiken High NJROTC program is recently affiliated with
SRRPC.
Phil Williams spoke at the event at the invitation of the Committee. He
emphasized that the participants needed to take a good look at these fine
young people. These Junior shooters are really at the top of the population
that we (at SRRPC, Gun Owners of South Carolina, and the NRA Foundation) are
about when it comes to young people, firearms safety, responsibility, and
competitive shooting.
The Aiken Team had an outstanding year, the following write-up might be of

AIKEN HIGH'S NJROTC RIFLE TEAM FINISHES THE YEAR WITH A BANG
The Aiken High NJROTC Varsity Rifle Team earned a second place in the NJROTC
Area Six match, which includes South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and
Tennessee. The team had to shot three separate matches for this award. The
team members were Team Captain David Warren, Richard Tager, Brian Miller and
Joseph Duren. Richard Tager earned a second place overall medal and David
Warren earned a fifth place overall medal.
The NS-1 (First Year) Rifle Team earned a Fifth Place Award. Team members
were Aaliyah Mitchell, Chris Barnhill, Charles Miles and Neal Jennings.
In the NRA National JROTC Postal Match Aiken came in fifth place of all Navy
units. Richard Tager earned a First Place award with a score of 271 of a
possible 300 points while David Warren earned a second place award with a
score of 252 in the Junior Division.
Two of Aiken's top shooters have also received invitations to compete in the
High School National Championship Match in Atlanta this June, Richard Tager
and David Warren. Tager, the South Carolina State Champion, enters the
competition with the top score in the nation.
